The 1st annual Food Roots Seed Swap was a great success on Friday.  Held at the Crawford Bay School and attended by at least 50, the event provided free seeds and ample opportunity for local seedies to learn and connnect with one another.  Lots of people brought seeds to trade, and next year I’m sure many more will have seeds to bring!

On Saturday Food Roots held a regional conference on food security that was attended by food groups and interested individuals from Kaslo, Harrop, Nelson, Creston and or course the East Shore.  It was a great opportunity for the different groups that surround Kootenay Lake to get to know one another better.  For us at Food Roots it was a great opportunity to learn about what has been accomplished concerning food security around Kootenay Lake, and to hear what local people want to see happen on the East Shore.  The inspiration this gathering created will certainly be fertiliser for some new food projects on the East Shore.  Thank you to all who attended!
